Adapting your Marketing Strategy for the Post COVID-19 Era

COVID-19 has undoubtedly hit almost every business in the world, one way or another. And has driven businesses and consumers into a “new normal” world, in a matter of weeks.

This pandemic which took the world by storm has highlighted the need and importance for businesses to go digital, to be online where your customers are.

As we edge out of lockdown, it can’t be back to business as usual, rather businesses need to revisit their strategies for business as “unusual”!

The first thing on every business leader’s mind should be how to drive business revenues back up. This requires a rethink of marketing strategies because consumer behaviour has been changed dramatically and perhaps permanently by Covid-19.

And when consumer behaviour shifts, marketing strategies, advertising budgets and media plans must shift too. Marketers need to follow the consumers and participate in the platforms where they are spending their time.

Purchasing behaviour has changed with consumers researching and buying more online and relying more on delivery services.

Alongside this, there has also been a shift in media consumption heavily towards in-home media. Consumers are forsaking traditional channels for social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok; TV streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+; Online gaming platforms such as Game Pass and Twitch; and messaging apps such as Viber, WhatsApp and Messenger.

So, as we exit the crisis, businesses must now start to reach new customers and re-engage their existing customers.

The beauty, even if somewhat creepy, of digital marketing is that it permits highly targeted reach, based on consumer online behaviour, and at relatively low cost compared to some of the ‘old norm’ traditional forms of above-the-line advertising. This is a very attractive proposition for a marketer looking to effectively leverage their marketing budget in a post COVID world.

When it comes to re-engaging your existing base, messaging apps are developing fast to accommodate the needs of businesses. With rich content messaging direct to your customers’ mobile phones, this is the perfect way to maintain visibility, build on awareness and offer relevant, enticing deals to drive sales.

It’s never too late to start but beware your competitors are already pushing for market share. Remind your customers who you are and that you’re still ready to serve them. it’s time to readjust your marketing strategy based on the new normal and rebuild your revenue and profitability using all the new tools at your disposal
